Where You Go I Go Too

The weather in Oslo is boring nowadays. Rain rain and more rain. It’s starting to get chilly too. I’m feeling the summer officially has ended and the fall is just around the corner. I also personally feel as boring as the weather. All I do is work, eat, socialize (if meeting friends over coffee and eating out counts) and sleep. In between this I recently saw Familjen in concert again, sew and bounce around in my Hunter boots.

Natalie starring in one of the tunica dresses I recently sewn, and her favorite Hunter boots. The grey ones. I also have them in navy and considering them in black too. It hurts to work in a shoe shop.

In the meantime while I’m busy being boring and not blogging enough. You guys can buy Lindstrøm’s newly released album ‘Where You Go I Go Too‘ and go for a long long car ride or just put on your headphones and jump on a bus taking you somewhere unknown.  The best way to enjoy this wonder piece of indie dance.

Calling Dr Q

I’m kinda overwhelmed and flattered by the comments here lately. Thank you all! I really appreciate the feedback. I feel guilty for not blogging enough this summer, but I’ll try to get my act together and increase the blogging for the time to come. My camera died recently under an attack of a wasp. I’m hoping I’ll get it fixed as soon as possible so I can post outfits again. I also love my camera, and I’m missing it already.

In the meantime, enjoy a picture of my latest impulsive eBay shopping; the Marc by Marc Jacobs Dr Q Delancey Tote. It’s so beautiful in grey. The color, the leather, the size, the simplicity. Perfection! Can’t wait until it arrives on my door!

XoXo

First day at the new job today. I went for my preppy school blazer, bubble shirt dress, green braided belt, gold sailor shoes, red bow, pearls and my beloved YSL Muse.

05-august-08.png

I felt a bit Gossip Girl-ish outfit wise today. And speaking of which, I want one of these t-shirts just for fun and to warm up to the new season premiere starting September 1st. Can’t wait for more Upper East Side fashion inspiration. Preview of the drama to come!

Seafoam On A Saturday Night

Bought this dress for 49 NOK the other day. Originally planned as a beach dress, but found out that it worked well for summer nights too. I love the dip-dye trend and I love the seafoam color in the summer. The earrings I’m wearing are stones that are handpicked somewhere foreign and handmade. Bought them at Hovefestivalen of all places.

02-august-08.png

Clubbing last night was fun. Lots of fascinating people and a bit celebrity spotting. It’s cute how all the girls are dressed up in pretty dresses…and Havaianas on their feet. The charm of the summer, huh?

A male friend of mine from kindergarden also complimented my dress, and then another stranger who I seem to meet on the bus every Saturday on my way home said he liked my taste in shoes and bags. Haha. That was kinda cute.

August Fun

I admit it. I skipped the Top 5 of July. My excuse must be that July is vacation month, thus my blog sort of took a vacation too. But it’s August, brand spankin new month, and a top 5 list of recommendations on your way.

1. Bows for the hair have been hot and seen many places this year after Miu Miu’s S/S 2008 ad campaign. I’ve blogged about it earlier, and since then people around me have started calling me “the girl with the bow”, strangers poke my bows and say they like it when we’re out and etc. A bow as a hair accessory can make the outfit. I buy silk ribbons in lots of different colors, tie them together as a bow, put them on a hair pin and spray it with hairspray. You can also put several layers of ribbons and tie it together as a multicolored bow. I like how the bow adds the cute, preppy and more innocent look to an outfit.

2. Norway have had a great summer this year. The last few weeks have been so hot and sunny that we’ve started to complain. Really, it’s so hot that we just have to spend our days at the beach to get tan and cool down in the sea. Beach time with friends are fun though. We often bring a box of Alphabet Cookies (Bokstavkjeks) to have fun with. Spell inside sentences, pull a letter from the box and decide our future boyfriends and other childish things. The other day I even got my own lunch box with Alphabeth Cookies. Young at heart! These cookies are one of the exceptions where you’re allowed to play with food.

3. One of the biggest festivals in Oslo is coming up the first week of August, Øyafestivalen. Some great line ups, and a lot that doesn’t tickle my fancy. I might hang there one day or so. I know everyone wants to see N.E.R.D. I’ll definitely see you at Øyanatt though. There’s a lot happening around at the clubbing scene from Wednesday to Saturday. Par example: Boys Noize Records night with Les Petits Pilous and Strip Steve on Wednesday, The Presets, LA Riots and Booka Shade on Thursday (this day is like Super Thursday), A-Trak and The Whitest Boy Alive on Friday and it all finishes off with a Kitsuné Maison night on Saturday. Wooh. On top of that there’s Sunkissed (clubbing concept) every night. Oslo night is absolutely the place to be next week!

4. Fall is coming up in not too long. I always spend the whole fall looking for the perfect boots and end up finding them when the winter arrives. This year I’m aiming to find them before the fall starts. Since I work at a shoe store I know how hectic it is in the October when everyone is looking for new shoes. The tip is to already look for them now that the fall items are starting to arrive the shops, this way you’ll have the boots ready when the fall begins and you avoid the boots being sold out in your size. I’m opting for a pair of grey and black boots this year. Already found some potentials, but we’ll see.

5. I’m a mocha coffee addict. Especially in the summer, I at least have to have one daily dose of my ice mocha. In the length it’s pretty expensive so I’ve started using my coffee machine and blender at home instead. I just buy fresh coffee from my favorite coffee shoes (ask them which coffee they use in yours when you order to go) add chocolate and cinnamon or mint sirupe, shake it with ice and add it to a glass of milk. If I want it the Frappuchino way I just put it in the blender for a few seconds, and voila!

All in all, remember to have fun the last days of summer and enjoy August and the things to come! I’m having too much fun this summer myself, hence the lack of blogging. But I’ll be back stronger when you least expect it!

Black Leather

gt-vest.jpg

In between the summer sale I recently found my first new item for the fall 2008. A grey knitted vest slash cardigan. Even though I really love and enjoy the summer, I’m looking forward to the fall. It’s one of my favorite seasons, not just generally but fashion wise too. I like the layering, the boots, the coats, the knitted cardigans, the color palette and the leather. I’m aiming for a black chic leather jacket for pre-fall.

So far I’ve got my eye on these two from See By Chloe. I like the details of the biker jacket to the left and how it’s so casual and cool. The quilted one to the right is more “me”, I suppose. The jacket is a more unique and classy variant of the typical leather jacket. I know Rick Owens always cooks up a bunch of innovative leather jackets, but since I’m really not much of a black leather jacket person, I prefer not to invest too much in one.

By the way, I’m trying to break my unintentionally tradition of July of posting twice a week by start blogging more. Hang in there!

A Ribbon For My Hair

This was circa moi the other day. Now it’s more bikini, shorts and t-shirt time. The sun has arrived Oslo and the clouds have disappeared for a while. We love it. Spent all day at the beach today and planning to do so tomorrow too, in between meetings, barbecuing and clubbing.

22-juli-08.png

White oversized t-shirt (H&M Trend), grey folded skirt (H&M Trend), Blueberry City bag (Balenciaga), grey and navy laced pumps (Zara), seahorse necklace (Lindex), white and silver Clic-Clac bracelet (Hermes), rainbow colored bangle (H&M), red bow in hair (cut off from a hairband by H&M).

Anyone got today’s title by the way? Hint: It’s a title of a cute song.

Two Sides Of Every Case

American Apparel is the king when it comes to basics wear. They recently launched the Unisex Thermochromatic Sheer Jersey T-Shirt. It’s a t-shirt made with a temperature sensitive pigment that changes between two colors - one when cold, one when warm. Fun concept. It reminds me of those mood rings we had when we were younger, which changed color after the temperature. Although we were so naive that we thought the mood had everything to do with the color changing.

thermal-jersey-aa.jpg

Looks like these H&M Trend jeans have gone through some color change too. Acid jeans aren’t really the thing for me. They are a bit too…acid. But I really love these. They are more grey-blue and perfectly stonewashed for my taste. I’m imaging these jeans with an oversized plain t-shirt, some chunky sandals, a long necklace and a cropped blazer. Now I just need to find them in my size and hope that they doesn’t fit terrible on myself.

Color Me Blue

Outfit from clubbing last night. My beautiful silk dress survived getting white russian all over it and my Marc by Marc Jacobs bag now smells beer from here to Africa. Crowded dancefloor is an ass, and it’s even worse when you have to go through the dancefloor to get to and from the bar. Drinks are doomed to be spilled everywhere. Had fun last night though, and it continues tonight with yet another drinking day. Oh, these summer nights.

The dress comes across as black or navy on the photos, but it’s actually a special sapphire blue color.  The color (and the fact that my friend pushed me because she thought the dress was perfect for me) is the whole reason why I bought the dress in London earlier this year. I don’t regret the choice though. I love the silk, the exquisite color, the details in the front and the back, the hidden pockets and that’s it actually two sizes too large.

Leather jacket (Zara), silk dress (French Connection), tank top (Filippa K), pumps (Bianco), clutch (Marc by Marc Jacobs), necklace (Aldo), bracelets (Hermes and H&M).

Rules Are Made To Be Broken

(Photo: facehunter.blogspot.com)

I’m almost fascinated by how this adorable girl from Gothenburg breaks my unwritten and not very tangible “fashion rules”. It’s mix-matching without trying too hard. I’m not going to go deep into the outfit and analyze it’s political meanings as Hipster Runoff did.

I just simply love how she mixed the striped tee with the dotted high waist skirt. I like how she combined the hazelnut bangles with black and white. And I actually think the gold giant hardware on her Balenciaga bag looks fabulous. Just wish we also could see her shoes. At first glance I thought her skirt was covered in studs. Does anyone else see that? Or is my nightvision hallucinating? A skirt in studs would actually been kinda cool, but perhaps a bit uncomfortable.

The Girl And The Sea

It’s hard to not love the Norwegian summer when the weather is at it’s best. I love going to the beach, hanging in the park drinking ice coffee, feel the grass and watching the clouds, barbequeing, enjoying cold Coronas, eating ice cream on ice cream at Aker Brygge, walk home at night because summer nights last forever, and most of all I love being by the sea. Surfing, water skiing, swimming, boating etc. Everything to feel the salty water and the sea breeze.

Hence I wear a lot of nautical inspired outfits during the summer, even when I’m in the city. The nautical style is a simple but fantastic concept. There’s mainly the colors white, red and navy with details of metallics in gold, bronze or silver. The sailor trend seems to be a repeating one every year. Some seasons it’s more popular than others. I think I’ll never go bored of the style, because it’s only present one small period of the year and it’s been with me since I was a child. Ship’o'hoi!

nautical-2.png

The Presets - Girl And The Sea (Cut Copy Remix)‘ is practically my summer soundtrack. Very dreamy. Go buy The Presets’ music. Their album ‘Apocalypso‘ is highly recommended. The Presets are coming to Øyafestivalen at Øyanatt. Another great Australian band, Cut Copy, is also performing at Øya. I saw them earlier this year, and I’m looking muchos forward to see them again this summer.

11-juli-08.png

I haven’t been by the sea today, but just been hanging around in the park with a friend I haven’t seen in forever. Tonight I’m taking a time-out with a full evening with myself, the film ‘Once‘, chocolate milk and Tom & Jerry cookies. Haven’t had alone time in forever. I don’t know about you guys, even though I’m socially active addictive, I still need my Natalie-time. Yup.

Polkadots

Saturday was the last Oslo Live Festival day. Datarock was awesome! And yesterday we ended the success of the festival with a great party with too much free drinks. Now I’m taking a break from festivals until Øyafestivalen starts in August.

There has been a lot of festival fashion in the outfit department lately. Comfertable is king. I’ve practically lived in wellies, baggy jeans, denim shorts, floral skirts, plimsoles, plain cotton tees, oversized cardigans and cropped jackets the last few weeks. It was nice wearing heels and a coat for a change today. I love my new shoes. The rain doesn’t love them though, so I bought a cute polkadots umbrella to match my tights today. Isn’t the bow too cute?

Today’s outfit: White floral tunica dress (H&M Trend), grey and blue polkadots tights (Urban Outfitters), navy and gold coat (Marc by Marc Jacobs), gold elephant necklace (H&M), red bag (Zara) and grey and navy shoes (Zara).

Let’s Get This Party Started Right

Outfit last night from the Justice concert. Wore the same tee as I beaded myself for the last concert in February. New grey cropped jacket and very dirty sandals. Neon pink skirt by Modstrøm.

2-juli-08.png

Everyone in Oslo nowadays; attend Oslo Live Festival and say hi! Tomorrow is my last working day there, but I will be hanging around all day on Saturday. Justice yesterday was insane as always. The place was filled with 10 000 people! And everyone was stoked to the bone. The after-party with Dmitry Fyodorov wasn’t that bad either. Bumped into Gaspard Auge from Justice and got a few snapshots. My friend got cockblocked by Gaspard. Hilarious! Gaspard and this random girl walked from the after-party together on a city bicycle. Aww! I, on the other hand, walked all the way home. Took about two and a half hour. I was home around 6 am. Oh yes. My feet is probably aching, but fortunately I don’t have time to feel it because I rarely sit still nowadays.

Pictures from Wednesday night. Never mind all the retard faces. We did have fun though!

I Lust You

I’ve been back from Hovefestivalen since Saturday. The days have hectic rolled by since I came home. The festival was freakin fantastic. I survived my first time in tent. Six whole days! The toilets and showers was yuck, but hey, everyone was shabby anyways. We stopped by the Cosmopolitan stand everyday to get our hair and make-up done. Not that I felt it had that much effect throughout the long days filled with concerts, raving and a bit work.

I’ve met a lot of people, seen many cool and eccentric outfits (I adore festival fashion!), raved to a bunch of awesome djs, sung along to concerts, worked behind the bar selling beer and drinks to people and celebrities, gave Johan from Familjen a peek on the cheek, shot 102 photos of people kissing for the campaign ‘Kiss For Climate‘ for MTV and got a crew tee, smiled and laughed a lot….and generally had a great time. Favorite concerts were Familjen, Surkin, Boyz Noize, MSTRKRFT, The Kooks and The National Bank. The entire week can’t be described in either words or pictures, but I’ll give you some pictures anyways.

hovefestivalen08.jpg

This week it’s a smaller festival happening here in Oslo called Oslo Live. Kickoff today and starting for real tomorrow. We’re talking Justice, Sebastien Tellier, Datarock, Clutch, Sunkissed and much more. Good times ahead! Worked at Oslo Live late tonight and got a few heavy days with work, festival, concerts and partying ahead. But it’s all good. Gotta love summer.

Midsummer

Outfit from last Saturday repeated yesterday. Floral sheer blouse, gold tights, beige leather jacket, tan pumps and ivory bag.

14-juni-08.jpg

Yesterday my girls and I was invited to celebrate the Swedish Midsummer followed by Kristian Park and two other bands in concert. Robin served us a lovely dinner. Us girls had a blast at the concert. Good times. Always.

Bleep. I kinda miss my long hair already.

Boyfriend, Give Me Your Shorts

After looking all over the city for the perfect denim shorts the last months I thought I’d never find the one. Oasis has a really nice one, but it was all sold out in my size everywhere. Levis‘ denim shorts were too short for my taste. And other random shorts had stitching on the pockets that I didn’t like at all, wrong wash and etcetc.
I became so desperate that I raved through my mom’s closet looking for old jeans I could cut to shorts. No potential denim shorts. Instead I found a pair of yellow skinny jeans and a couple of old school belts.

(Photos: kanal5.se/web/stylebykling, facehunter.blogspot.com, fashiontoast.com)

Then the other day I found this gorgeous piece of denim at Warehouse. It’s the perfect boyfriend shorts for me. Horray. Now I just need a pair of Hunter boots, a new funky raincoat and a record hat (as the cool girl over), and I’m all ready for Hovefestivalen next week.

Flower Power

New skirt, new t-shirt, new shoes and new bracelets. The summer sort of took a break here in Oslo, but that doesn’t stop me from taking out the florals and letting them bloom. The skirt and pumps would probably look better with bare legs, but it will be plenty of days for nudity (in form of legs) in the future, I guess.

To Skirt Or Not To Skirt

This season I really got a thing for plain a-lined mini skirts. And it’s everywhere in the shops here. H&M Trend and Filippa K have a couple of great options in cotton in the colors black and white. My original plan was to sew a bunch before the summer arrived, but as normal…I don’t always follow my plans. I want them in all sorts of colors and fabrics. But mainly the same style; a-line, short and chic.

I was drooling over this cotton skirt by See By Chloe at Illum when I visited Copenhagen this winter. I still regret that I didn’t buy it at that time and I haven’t yet found the time to sew a substitute. Neither a fabric that has the same amazing color and the same yummy cotton feeling.
I’m in a shoppingmood and need something nice. The blue See By Chloe skirt will go great with a tan skin. I’m also picturing the skirt as a part of a nautical look, but also a simple look with a plain white tee or tanktop.

So the big question is: Should I go for the skirt now? Yay or nay?

Roses Are Red

Went to an interview followed by a lunch with my Swedish friend who I hadn’t seen in a year today. Good times. Now I’m off for some drinks with one of my bestfriends, but just thought I’d update for once. I guess short update is better than no update.

The maritime colors aka red, white and navy seem to be a constantly color combination nowadays. Summer is sea, sea is sailor, sailor is style. That explains it all. I feel a bit overdressed on a Tuesday. But inspired by all the pretty shoes from the Sex And The City Movie, which I by the way loved, I thought some red patent pumps wouldn’t hurt. Life is too short to be underdressed.

Black And Gold

Sorry the lack of outfit posting lately. Honestly I’ve just been a lazy ass and enjoying the hot hot summer.

June 6th was Sweden’s National Day. Since my friends and I still have the dresses I personally sew for us for the Scandinavian Party last year. We decided to take the dresses in use that day to honor the Swedes. The dresses was a hit at the barbeque party. People almost turned sad when we had to change to go out clubbing. The plan was to see Annie and Sam Sparro DJing at Blå, but because of drama-o-roma (surprise!) I ended up elsewhere. Shit happens.

Don’t mind the grin on my face or the hand in action. I’m just trying to smile and slap some random guy.
06-juni-08.png

And speaking of shutter shades the previous entry. Barbecued, wined and hang out in the park as per usual today, and my girls and I find out that our friend’s little brother actually has 3 pair of shutter glasses. Of course we borrow them and act totally goofy. I know, we’re kind cute as retards.

It’s hard trying to be oh so cool.

Harder Faster Better Stronger

My sisters and I decided to go out partying last night…

(Photo: readysetglo.net)

Or nooot! I’m an only child. But some girls in Asia obviously got their groove on with the famous Kanye West glasses aka shutter shades.

I went out clubbing with some of my male friends on Saturday and one of them wore a pair of shutter shades. It was like the ultimate boy/gay attraction. “Dude, it’s the Kanye glasses. Awesome!” All the boys came and asked him if they could try them on…or even wear them at the dancefloor. LOL.

(Photos: kanyeuniversecity.com)

The funny thing is that the shutter shades have been popular in Asia looong before Kanye started wearing them. Not a big surprise really since they’re made in China and we can’t avoid the fact that Asians often are trendsetters. I love Kanye and his music, and I don’t even normally listen to hip-hop, but I guess he felt he had to wear something eccentric when he collaborated with Daft Punk on ‘Stronger‘. After all Daft Punk are the coolest robots in history.

daft-punk-live.jpg

The leather jackets the guys are wearing are Dior Homme designed by Hedi Slimane. All the cool boys wear DH.
Daft Punk and fashion work great together. They were spinning a mini-set at Louis Vuitton’s Spring/Summer 2008 Fashion Show in Paris last year. Have a listen here (courtesy by kidzbycolette.free.fr). It’s a nice live set of SebastiAn remixed, ‘Sexual Sportswear‘ by Sebastien Tellier, a bit Ratatat and not to mention Kanye West’s ‘Stronger‘. Mr West was of course at the fashion show.

Speaking of music, visit househouse.se. It’s newly started music blog made by a Swedish friend of mine, and he asked me to contribute. We’ll be posting the best of the best in house music.

Now that all the kids have found eBay I just hope I don’t see shutter shades everywhere in this country this summer. Some ‘trends’ are just overload. We all remember the period of Dior Glossy glasses or the oversized look-a-likes on every girl one summer, don’t we? I felt surrounded by mosquitos!
